Marking a Year of Growth, Resilience and Achievement
Prize Giving is a cherished annual tradition that brings the school community together to celebrate the end of the year. This year’s event at the Christchurch Town Hall was a fitting culmination of 2024, marking a year of growth, resilience, and achievement for students, staff, and the wider Rangi whānau.
As family and friends arrived they were treated to the slick sound of the Jazz Band, setting the tone for a night filled with celebration. Following the official procession, the kapa haka group performed with powerful integrity, their waiata resonating deeply with everyone. Rev. Phyllis led a heartfelt prayer, grounding the event in gratitude and reflection, before Board Chair Nicki Carter delivered a warm welcome. She highlighted the Board’s vision for the future, emphasising the school’s commitment to fostering excellence and innovation.
The Head of School and Head of Boarding shared personal reflections on the year, celebrating the camaraderie and accomplishments of ākonga and introducing the heads for 2025. Principal, Tracy Herft shared highlights from her first six months in the role, reflecting on the joy of seeing Rangi Ruru students thrive both academically and personally.
The evening’s performances were nothing short of extraordinary. Resolutions stunned the audience with their hauntingly beautiful rendition of O-Yo-Yo, a French Canadian folk song, while Rangi Sinfonia delivered a flawless performance of Tango Mangle by Leonie Holmes. The pinnacle of the night came when the Rangi Ruru dance companies joined Rangi Sinfonia for a dazzling, high-energy performance of Darude’s Sandstorm. Combining music, choreography, and poi, the performance electrified the Town Hall, leaving a lasting impression!
