Welcome, I’m Sandra Hastie, the Principal of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School. Thank you for taking the time to discover who we are and what we stand for.

I have been involved in education for over 30 years with 20 of those years being in Independent Education and I am a strong advocate not only for Independent Education, but also single-sex education. Having worked in both boys and girls only schools I have seen first-hand the very real differences that each need in their approach to learning. It is essential that we deliver our curriculum in the way that girls learn best which is through collaboration, discussion, and providing them with a wide range of opportunities, especially in innovation. We need to encourage girls to take risks in their learning, to be innovative and entrepreneurial in their thinking, to question, challenge and to ensure that we have a learning environment that supports having a go, that it is ok to fail and, that above all, effort is also recognised and valued not just success.
Leading this energetic, talented and diverse community of staff and students is an extraordinary privilege. The next generation is growing up in a world full of promise, choice and possibility. They are going on to pursue as yet unimagined careers and will face unprecedented opportunities and challenges. On a daily basis, I have the pleasure of seeing the girls at Rangi Ruru develop and mature into the young women who will lead the many cultural, artistic, scientific and technological advancements that lie ahead.

Preparing our Students for the World
In preparing our girls to navigate and shape this complex and changing world, we recognise not only the importance of delivering academic excellence, but also of supporting and challenging the girls’ opinions, promoting independence and global diversity within our community, and nurturing a culture of tolerance, compassion and resilience. These qualities are key to empowering our girls to thrive, both as they live and work alongside their friends and peers at Rangi, and as they go on to lead successful and fulfilling lives beyond.

Developing the Whole Girl
We unashamedly put the wellbeing at the forefront with their academic achievements and we are proud to develop intellectually curious, self-motivated and enthusiastic young women. Rangi Ruru Girls’ School has sustained an outstanding reputation for an inspired tradition of leading the way with girls’ education and excellence for over a century, which we cherish, evolving and innovating to meet the challenges of each new generation.
There has never been a more exciting time to be a member of this vibrant, inspiring and supportive community. A visit is highly recommended in order to experience a taste of our school and we look forward to extending you a very warm welcome.
