Are you ready to begin your Rangi journey?

Welcome, I’m Stephanie Barnett, the Acting Principal of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School. Thank you for taking the time to discover who we are and what we stand for.

I have been involved in education for over 40 years, both in New Zealand and in Europe, teaching and learning in a variety of co-educational and single sex schools, and at University both in Canterbury and in France. I spent five years as the National French Adviser and twenty years in Independent Education where I have seen the benefit and strong sense of belonging that accompanies girls’ education and the specific approaches, connections and relationships that work best for them. We deliver our curriculum in the way that young wāhine learn best, which is through collaboration, discussion, and providing them with a wide range of opportunities, especially in innovation. We encourage them to take risks in their learning; to be critical in their thinking; to question and challenge. We ensure that we have a learning environment that supports having a go; that failure is part of life and learning; and, that effort is recognised and valued as well as personal and team success. Our ākonga are supported to develop competencies and dispositions such as self-reliance, relating well to others and practising responsible citizenship.

As Acting Principal and a committed kaitiaki or guardian of the Rangi Ruru legacy, leading this engaged, talented and diverse community of staff and students is an extraordinary privilege. The next generation is growing up in a world full of change, choice, promise and possibility. Some are going on to pursue as yet unimagined careers and all will face unprecedented opportunities and challenges. I will have the pleasure of seeing the rangatahi at Rangi Ruru develop into well-rounded, confident and compassionate people who will engage in and lead the many cultural, artistic, scientific and technological advancements that lie ahead.

He waka eke noa – we are all in this together.

Preparing our Students for the World

In preparing our girls to navigate and shape this complex and changing world, we recognise not only the importance of delivering academic excellence, but also of supporting and challenging the girls’ opinions, promoting independence and global diversity within our community, and nurturing a culture of tolerance, compassion and resilience. These qualities are key to empowering our girls to thrive, both as they live and work alongside their friends and peers at Rangi, and as they go on to lead successful and fulfilling lives beyond.
