Rangi Ruru Girls’ School offers scholarship opportunities to highly motivated ākonga with abilities across many areas of life.


These areas include Academic, Music, Sport, Leadership and Cultural contributions and talents. In order to be considered for these prestigious scholarships, ākonga must be willing to contribute and participate fully in the life of Rangi Ruru, upholding our values and embracing our spirit.

Our scholarship recipients are not only given financial support to attend Rangi Ruru, they are immersed in programmes such a Stellar Music, SOAR (Sport) and our Crimson Education Careers and Pathway Strategist ensure they reach their full potential.

Years 7 and 9 Scholarship Applications are now open. Applications close at 4pm on Friday 9 May 2025.

Scholarship Types

Years 7 and 9

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is pleased to offer Scholarships for ākonga entering Year 7 and Year 9. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, for excellence in music and all-round ability.

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and currently in Year 6 or Year 8 to be eligible to sit the Scholarship examinations. A $150 application fee applies.

Year 7 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. Ākonga must demonstrate academic performance in our Scholarship Entrance Examination. High performance in other academic competitions may be taken into consideration. These scholarships are offered for two years.

Widesky Scholarships

Ākonga must demonstrate a high level of achievement and participation in two or more of our four identified areas: academic, leadership, sport, cultural. These scholarships are offered for two years. If an applicant has a special strength in music as part of the Cultural component, please note this on the application form and be prepared to attend an audition if required.

Stellar Music Scholarships

Stellar Music Scholarships are awarded for excellence in music. If selected, ākonga are required to attend an audition which runs for approximately 20 minutes. The audition consists of a short performance of two contrasting pieces, aural tests, sight-reading, a brief discussion on the music performed and the applicant’s involvement in music. Further details will be given on notification of selection for audition. These scholarships are offered for two years.

Year 9 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. Ākonga must demonstrate academic performance in our Scholarship Entrance Examination. High performance in other academic competitions may be taken into consideration. These scholarships are offered for five years.

These scholarships are offered for five years. Boarding Scholarships

Boarding Scholarships are awarded to a Year 9 who shows dedication to academic study and all-round ability. The recipient is awarded $5,000 per annum for five years.

Stellar Music Scholarships

Stellar Music Scholarships are awarded for excellence in music. If selected, ākonga are required to attend an audition which runs for approximately 20 minutes. Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association Scholarship

For Year 9 entry for two years awarded to the daughter or granddaughter of a Rangi Old Girl. An academically able ākonga will be supported to continue her journey.

Costs

A $150 registration fee is required for ākonga to sit Scholarship. Those who have already submitted a General Application for enrolment do not have to pay an additional fee. Any student whose mother is an Old Girl of Rangi Ruru is exempt from this fee.
