Assistant Director of Sport
We are currently seeking a passionate person with outstanding interpersonal, critical thinking, leadership and organisational skills to join our Sports Department.
The Assistant Director of Sport is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day delivery of sporting opportunities at Rangi Ruru. The programme aims to encourage all students to achieve their potential in sport, across the full spectrum of abilities, from participation to excellence. The Assistant Director of Sport supports and assists the Director of Sport with the development and delivery of a strategic plan, recruitment of coaches, health and safety, survey and review, feedback, communication with whanau, player and coach development, the planning and running of key events and the development of policy and processes.
Applicants are encouraged to specify any specific strengths or passions in particular sporting codes or areas. A key focus is on ensuring the quality of the programmes being delivered is of a high standard and importantly meets the needs of the student community. The role is a permanent full-time position (no fewer than 35 hours per week).
Our ideal candidate will:
- – Have a passion for sport and working with rangatahi
- – Have experience working in sport
- – Experience leading and managing staff; accountable to direct reports of Sports Coordinators to you
- – Have an operational perspective – to ensure the wheels continue to turn across all sports, events and activities
- – Competent with Health and Safety processes and procedures. Ability to apply attention to detail and work in a timely manner
- – Support a Balance is Better approach and advocate for player wellbeing
- – Experience in recruiting, supporting and retaining coaches and support staff
- – Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- – Be positive under pressure and able to work calmly and with a solution focused manner to manage competing demands in time sensitive situations
- – Be able to think critically, show empathy and be intuitive to the needs of the department
- – Have competency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel) and social media platforms
- – Understand setting budgets and working across multiple budgets
- – Understand of the demands and expectations of working in a school environment
- – Be supportive of the ethos and values of Rangi Ruru
- – Operate with discretion and understand the importance of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- – Work with a number of internal groups and staff to ensure the delivery of weekly sport and events

The successful applicant will be remunerated according to relevant experience and the appropriate pay scale for an Assistant Director of Sport role.
