2025 Student Theme Announcement
Each year the Rangi Ruru Year 13 leaders gather before the whole school returns to discuss the year ahead, set goals and most importantly choose the student-led theme for the year. This long-standing tradition is eagerly anticipated each year by students as it sets the tone and embodies all that the students do.
With the whole school gathered in Atawhai, for the first assembly of the year, there was an air of excitement as the Year 13 cohort got ready to share their vision for the year ahead.
Head of School, Libby Sexton emphasised the thought and significance behind the theme saying, this is something we’ve put a lot of thought into, and it truly means so much to us. We wanted it to reflect who we are as a school and the values that bring us together’.

The reveal was nothing short of spectacular. With drumbeats and music filling the gym, student leaders took to the floor, adorned with wings, leading an energetic performance that had the entire student body engaged.
The theme was revealed Nest together, soar forever.
Libby shared with her peers, “this year’s theme reflects Rangi Ruru’s strong sense of connection and how each of us contribute to a wider community. Like a nest a home for birds made up of countless twigs and branches, Rangi Ruru is our home, and we are each woven into its culture to create a distinctly diverse place for us all. Our nest, Rangi Ruru, is where we learn and grow, nurturing us into who we are. We are supported by this community until it is time for us to spread our own wings and fly the nest.

She also highlighted the symbolism of birds flying in a V formation, lifting and supporting each other along the way, just as the Rangi Ruru community does.
The theme was met with enthusiastic applause, signalling strong support from the students. As students left the assembly it was sensed they were eager to bring their best to the nest in 2025 so they can all soar, together.
