A Standout Summer Tournament
Rangi Ruru students shone on the national stage during Summer Tournament Week 2025, competing against the best secondary school athletes across Aotearoa. Over 40 national secondary school sporting events took place, showcasing the depth of talent within New Zealand schools. From the cricket pitch to the athletics track, our students displayed skill, determination, and sportsmanship, bringing home impressive results across multiple disciplines.
Tournament Highlights
Golf: Vanessa Lim took 1st place, and Eva Yin secured 4th at the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Golf Championship.
Multisport: Charlotte Chiles delivered outstanding performances at the NZSS Triathlon & Aquathon Championships, finishing 2nd in both U19 events.
Rowing: Rangi Ruru was once again crowned New Zealand’s top girls’ rowing school at the Maadi Regatta. Every Rangi crew made it to a final, securing three gold, four silver, and two bronze medals. Charlie Ward was named top coxswain of the regatta—a huge honor!
Athletics: Competing through tough conditions, our track and field athletes excelled at the Canterbury Secondary School Athletics Championships, winning multiple titles. Special mentions go to Tilly O’Sullivan (1st in 400m, 2nd in 800m), Harriet Murray (1st in High Jump, U14), and our U19 and Open relay teams, both taking home gold.
Swimming: Our swimmers put in stellar performances at the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Swimming Champs, with standout swims from Indy Leeds (1st 100m Freestyle, 3rd 200m Freestyle) and Aimee Drennan (1st 50m Freestyle, 3rd 200m Free Relay).


Water Polo: Our SISS Champs team secured 3rd place, with Zoe Crisp named Most Valuable Goalie, alongside Tamsin Ruru-Dons and Zoe Crisp earning spots in the tournament team.
Volleyball: Our squad finished 2nd in the Div 1 Satellite Tournament, marking a fantastic season.
Tennis: The team placed 6th at the National Secondary School Tennis Cup.
Touch Rugby: Rangi Ruru’s team finished 5th equal at the SISS Touch Championships.
Cricket: In the Gillette Regional Qualifying Tournament, our cricket team placed 4th.
Futsal: Our futsal squads finished 10th (junior) and 24th (senior) at the NZSS Championships.
A huge congratulations to our athletes, coaches, and supporters who contributed to an incredible week. Whether on the podium or giving it their all, every participant has made Rangi Ruru proud. Bring on next year!
